Why hire a graphic designer?

A lot of people ask, "Why pay for a graphic design? Can't I do it on my own computer these days?"

  • Do you know that designing for offset printing is different than designing for color copying, is different than designing for the web? We do.
  • Do you know that you can't produce color letterhead on most copiers because your image will melt and run when you put it back through your laser printer? We do.

What about all those discount online design and print sources?
Many online printers who "bunch" all their jobs together offer good pricing. This is because your job does not get any individual attention. No color management, no quality check - they just put all the orders together and run them. I have seen cases where your business card front has someone else's back printed on it, or another company's information bleeds over onto the edge of your material.

Another trick these companies use is to print their advertising on your materials! Look closely at the back of those "free" cards - you may see their website printed. Free advertising for them is a good deal for them - not for you. Anyone who knows their stuff immediately recognizes those cards for what they are - non professional. Is that the image you want to generate for your business?

Many of those printers are now offering online graphic design for free or for a minimal charge. They can do this because it is a canned product - meaning, your "logo" that you pick from their column A, B, or C has also been picked by thousands of other customers. No creativity, no personal inspiration especially created just for you - just pre-made clip art that you click-and-print. Isn't your business worth more than that?
