What is Open Space Technology (OST)?
Open Space Technology self-organizes large groups around a complex topic, taps their passion and creativity, and solves issues.
It is not a lecture or presentation, but rather an experience of authenticity, engagement, and accountability through group interaction.
Bring your voice, questions, concerns, ideas, and passion, as well as openness to learning, listening and contributing.
Whom shall we meet?
Business people, writers, readers, publishers, marketing professionals, artists and...you.
Prepare to meet some stimulating new folks and encounter some new ideas!
What will happen during the event?
From the opening circle, we will self-organize into small discussion groups designed to evoke, embrace and empower ideas and questions about writing, editing and creating what you want in the publishing world.
Where will we stay?
The facility we will be using for the weekend is a 117-acre retreat center located near Ligonier, PA, within 7 miles (15 minutes) of downtown Ligonier.
You may stay the entire weekend in the on-site cabins or travel to Ligonier, Latrobe or Greensburg for hotel accommodations. However, we recommend you stay on-site, because much of the interaction between participants may happen after hours, not to mention the impromptu fun stuff!
Cell phone reception is very sketchy on-site, however, we will provide emergency land-line phone numbers in your Welcome Packet.
We strongly recommend bringing a foam pad or the like to add on top of the camp bed mattresses, unless you like a really firm mattress. We will have pillows and blankets, but you are welcome to bring your own as well, for your comfort and familiarity.
What will we eat?
Light fare, coffee, tea and water will be provided for arrival on Friday evening. On Saturday we will provide a continental breakfast, lunch and dinner. Sunday Morning brunch will be available.
Please make us aware of any special dietary needs.
What should I wear?
The dress code is casual and comfortable. Comfortable walking shoes are a must, as for the rest - in early June in western PA, we could have snow or we could be swimming in the pool, so prepare for a range of weather. Check the weather widget below to see what weather is expected, and perhaps bring some layers so you can layer down or up as needed.
Why was I invited?
You have been invited because we know you have a passion about the topic of publishing and writing. Our participants were handpicked for their ideas, creativity and contributions to the publishing community.
I'm flying in, will I need a car?
No vehicles are available on-site. If you prefer your own transportation, or if you do not intend to remain on-site for the weekend, a rental car is advisable. Pittsburgh International Airport is located approximately 1 hour 30 minutes from the site.
I'm driving. Where can I find a map?
For directions to the site, please click the Location link at the top of this page.
Driving instructions and maps will also be provided in your welcome packet, but be aware that not all GPS systems are accurate for rural Pennsylvania.
