CURES FOR THE PARENTAL WIMP SYNDROME: TOP TEN LIST FOR EFFECTIVE PARENTING
Author: Thomas J. Zirpoli, Ph.D. Price: Trade Paperback $14.95 plus s/h
Category: Self Help
Description: Dr. Zirpoli believes that we have made the whole
issue of children and their behavior too complicated and too medical.
Despite the lack of scientific evidence that misbehavior is the result
of a medical, chemical or any other biological variable, billions of
dollars are spent to treat misbehavior as if it were a medical issue. He
calls this the medicalization of misbehavior. Tom says, "What we really
need to do is get back to basics. We know why children behave the way
they do—we have years of research telling us what children need to be
successful and why they fail. But instead of looking at the research, we
look for quick fixes, and we blame the victim instead of looking at our
own behavior as parents."
